A Small Ship Cruise: Uncommon Cruises Now Offers Alternative to Mainstream Cruising

A Small Ship Cruise: Uncommon Cruises Now Offers Alternative to Mainstream Cruising

Edgewood, WA (PRWEB) March 16, 2009

Many regular cruise passengers are becoming jaded with conventional cruises. They are now looking for an alternative, but don’t really know what other options are out there. And even if they did, there is no easy way to find out about the many different specialty cruises that are the perfect antidote to mainstream cruising. An exciting new trend, however, is underway.

Now consumers can discover just how convenient and helpful going to http://www.UncommonCruises.com can be when researching and planning a small ship cruise. “Absolutely everything is there in one spot,” says Patty Tanner of Vancouver, Canada. “My husband and I wouldn’t be caught dead on one of those big-box cruises. We much prefer going to out-of-the way destinations and we enjoy it more with a smaller group of fellow travelers.”

The Tanners recently returned from a safari to Kenya and are now looking at exploring Antarctica. “I had no idea there would be so many choices for cruises to Antarctica,” adds Mike Tanner. “We never knew this, but we discovered that you can visit Antarctica from either Australia or from Chile. And we can have the option of a tall ship, an ice breaker or a small ship cruise. We had no clue until we checked out this website.” “And their cruise advisors are so knowledgeable,” interjects Patty. “It’s such a relief talking to someone who has first-hand knowledge on the destination and the cruise you intend taking.”

Even the specialty cruise lines themselves find the website appealing. Profiles of these small ship cruise lines are as detailed as those found in their own corporate brochures. Star Clippers is one of them. One of almost 70 niche cruise companies found on the Uncommon Cruises website, they offer guests a tall-ship sailing experience on clipper ships that accommodate between 170 and 225 passengers. According to Dan Pedelaborde, Director of Incentives & National Accounts, West, for the cruise line, “This website is beautiful, and the Star Clippers content wonderfully presented.”

Towards the end of 2009, mainstream cruise line Royal Caribbean’s newest ship, Oasis of the Seas, will be launched. It will be one of the largest cruise ships ever built. There will be 16 decks and accommodate 5,400 passengers. “In effect, this vessel is the size of a small town,” says James Felton, Founder of Uncommon Cruises. His company is a travel center that focuses exclusively on specialty cruises, the opposite end of the spectrum to big-box ships like Oasis of the Seas.

In a press release issued last November, RCCL announced that their new vessel will have seven distinct neighborhoods. “Comparing a ship this size to a town isn’t that far-fetched,” observes Felton. “I suppose building one huge vessel is cheaper than seven small ones,” he added with an amused smile.

“We recognize our niche market is much smaller than the mainstream cruise marketplace. But it’s the encyclopedic scope of our website, our Advisors’ insider knowledge, and our vibrant online community that makes us successful,” says Felton. “Don’t get me wrong,” he adds, “I love any kind of cruise. But it’s the small ship cruise that gives me the most rewarding experience.” Judging by the variety of specialty cruises on this website, there certainly seems to be enough ‘uncommon’ cruise experiences from which to choose.

Nexus Captain Calls for Serious Reform and Accountability in Cruise Line Passenger Safety

Nexus Captain Calls for Serious Reform and Accountability in Cruise Line Passenger Safety

Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) January 24, 2012

Nexus Consulting Group of Alexandria, LLC, a leading provider of private maritime safety and security solutions, is calling on the cruise industry to implement independent passenger distress call systems. Similar to how anyone might pull a fire alarm, independent distress calls would alert authorities in case of disaster and a breakdown in the chain of command, as was seen recently on the Costa Concordia. Safety systems, no matter how well-intentioned, can fail due to human error and a lack of redundancy.

“Current distress systems make passengers reliant on a ‘chain of command’ for reaching the outside authorities, but what if the crew on board doesn’t do their jobs?” asks Captain Bill Doherty, director of maritime affairs for Nexus. “Passengers need to have the ability to ask for help if something seems dangerous and help is not being provided by the crew. Ideally, a passenger distress system would never need to be used, but when lives are at stake, any risk is unacceptable.”

Questions are being raised about the Costa Concordia’s captain, Francseco Schettino, and his possible consumption of alcohol prior to the the disaster. If this is the case, those in charge of passenger safety may have become incapable of doing their jobs. Nexus believes that the safety of the passengers should be deferred into their own hands at all levels possible to avoid any safety risk.

Nexus Consulting Group is taking the lead in demanding change from a key travel industry, with cruise safety specialists and programs designed to assist cruise lines with their safety management. To discuss Nexus’ cruise safety services, please contact Nexus Consulting at 703-224-8984.

To view Captain Doherty’s full recommendation to the cruise industry as a former Safety Manager for a major cruise line, please see the “What can we learn from the Costa Concordia?” white paper on the Nexus site.

New York Cruise Guide Launches

New York Cruise Guide Launches

Onancock, VA (PRWEB) November 4, 2005

The Cruise Guide Network’s New York Cruise Guide officially launched November 3, 2005. It includes calendar of all departing cruises in 2005 and 2006, cruise terminal directions, and a directory of hotels near the ports. The New York Cruise guide is the first to focus exclusively on the cruise ports in Manhattan, NY and Bayonne, NJ.

See the New York Cruise Guide at: http://www.newyorkcruiseguide.com

Most cruise passengers think of Bayonne as a New York harbor port, so Manhattan and Cape Liberty are combined one directory. The variety of cruise lines and destinations available from the ports is impressive.

Norwegian Cruise Line, Carnival Cruises, Holland America, Princess Cruises, and luxurious Crystal Cruises sail from the cruise terminals on Manhattan, New York. Destinations include the Caribbean, Bermuda, Canada and Europe. Passengers set sail from the Big Apple all year-round.

Celebrity Cruises and Royal Caribbean operate from just across the New York harbor at Bayonne, New Jersey. Voyages depart for Bermuda and the Caribbean from April to October.

The New York Cruise Guide joins the Brooklyn Cruise Guide and five other Cruise Guides in Greg Manter’s quickly growing Cruise Guide Network. The Brooklyn Guide launched October 24th to considerable fanfare from the press. It is the first and only guide to cruises from the new terminal under construction in Brooklyn.

Brooklyn Cruise Guide: http://www.brooklyncruiseguide.com

Mr. Manter is a cruise expert who has brought together a team of writers to profile all 25 American cruise ports. Their Guides are known for ease-of-use and objective information.
