A Small Ship Cruise: Uncommon Cruises Now Offers Alternative to Mainstream Cruising

A Small Ship Cruise: Uncommon Cruises Now Offers Alternative to Mainstream Cruising

Edgewood, WA (PRWEB) March 16, 2009

Many regular cruise passengers are becoming jaded with conventional cruises. They are now looking for an alternative, but don’t really know what other options are out there. And even if they did, there is no easy way to find out about the many different specialty cruises that are the perfect antidote to mainstream cruising. An exciting new trend, however, is underway.

Now consumers can discover just how convenient and helpful going to http://www.UncommonCruises.com can be when researching and planning a small ship cruise. “Absolutely everything is there in one spot,” says Patty Tanner of Vancouver, Canada. “My husband and I wouldn’t be caught dead on one of those big-box cruises. We much prefer going to out-of-the way destinations and we enjoy it more with a smaller group of fellow travelers.”

The Tanners recently returned from a safari to Kenya and are now looking at exploring Antarctica. “I had no idea there would be so many choices for cruises to Antarctica,” adds Mike Tanner. “We never knew this, but we discovered that you can visit Antarctica from either Australia or from Chile. And we can have the option of a tall ship, an ice breaker or a small ship cruise. We had no clue until we checked out this website.” “And their cruise advisors are so knowledgeable,” interjects Patty. “It’s such a relief talking to someone who has first-hand knowledge on the destination and the cruise you intend taking.”

Even the specialty cruise lines themselves find the website appealing. Profiles of these small ship cruise lines are as detailed as those found in their own corporate brochures. Star Clippers is one of them. One of almost 70 niche cruise companies found on the Uncommon Cruises website, they offer guests a tall-ship sailing experience on clipper ships that accommodate between 170 and 225 passengers. According to Dan Pedelaborde, Director of Incentives & National Accounts, West, for the cruise line, “This website is beautiful, and the Star Clippers content wonderfully presented.”

Towards the end of 2009, mainstream cruise line Royal Caribbean’s newest ship, Oasis of the Seas, will be launched. It will be one of the largest cruise ships ever built. There will be 16 decks and accommodate 5,400 passengers. “In effect, this vessel is the size of a small town,” says James Felton, Founder of Uncommon Cruises. His company is a travel center that focuses exclusively on specialty cruises, the opposite end of the spectrum to big-box ships like Oasis of the Seas.

In a press release issued last November, RCCL announced that their new vessel will have seven distinct neighborhoods. “Comparing a ship this size to a town isn’t that far-fetched,” observes Felton. “I suppose building one huge vessel is cheaper than seven small ones,” he added with an amused smile.

“We recognize our niche market is much smaller than the mainstream cruise marketplace. But it’s the encyclopedic scope of our website, our Advisors’ insider knowledge, and our vibrant online community that makes us successful,” says Felton. “Don’t get me wrong,” he adds, “I love any kind of cruise. But it’s the small ship cruise that gives me the most rewarding experience.” Judging by the variety of specialty cruises on this website, there certainly seems to be enough ‘uncommon’ cruise experiences from which to choose.

Vacation Rental Market Offers Tourism With Minimal Environmental Impact and Encourages Ecotourism in Kauai, Hawaii

Vacation Rental Market Offers Tourism With Minimal Environmental Impact and Encourages Ecotourism in Kauai, Hawaii

Honolulu, HI (PRWEB) November 27, 2006

Kauai, HI: Kauai, Hawaii provides one of the most effective examples of ecotourism in the United States today by offering a tourist destination that has preserved its natural beauty while opening its arms to visitors from around the world. The growing availability of vacation rentals in places such as Kauai, Poipu, Princeville and Hanalei has lead to a change in the visitor experience. These vacation rentals offer tourists a unique opportunity to engage in the local communities and share in the true “Aloha” of Hawaii.

Ecotourism is defined by the Hawaii Ecotourism Association as “nature and culture based tourism that is ecologically sustainable and supports the well being of local communities”. According to a poll of HEA members in 2004, to be considered as genuinely engaging in ecotourism, operators need to minimize the negative impact on Hawaii’s cultural heritage, local communities and natural environment, as well as maximize the positive impact on these factors. Furthermore, these operators must also foster an appreciation of Hawaii’s sense of place among staff and visitors. In Hawaii, the spirit of the land is referred to as “aina”. Kauai condo complexes and hotels are sensitive to this “aina” because they are built with special care to have the least impact possible on the land and wildlife in the local area.

For the savvy traveler who is also environmentally concerned, Kauai vacation rentals can offer a true Hawaiian experience that does an outstanding job of providing first class amenities and service while allowing the traveler to experience the incredible raw beauty of a Pacific Island.    Online resources make it simple to plan a vacation based around the concepts of ecotourism because you can browse for Kauai vacations with just a few simple clicks of your mouse and yet still be able to get personalized, one-on-one service. Charles Koehl of Hawaiian Beach Rentals states that, “Every vacationer is looking to have the vacation of a lifetime and we aim to help them find it in Hawaii. Our customers want to be able to ask questions about their trip and have a human interact with them and listen to their desires and dreams and make suggestions on what they would like.”

The focus on ecotourism in Hawaii causes operators to lean toward renewable tourism as opposed to building a 20 story hotel on the beach without considering its environmental impact. This creates an unprecedented opportunity for tourists to revel in the natural magnificence of Hawaii in a special setting of their own choice. Protecting the environment also gives tourists the opportunity to fully understand the wildlife, flora and traditions of Hawaii. Simply by surfing the Internet, travelers can view their potential Kauai vacation condos and finalize arrangements for their trip securely online. Koehl of Hawaiian Beach Rentals further says that, “Allowing our customers to make a transaction easily and securely online also makes us unique. We provide our customers with service on all of the major Hawaiian Islands and offer accommodations, airfare and car rentals to customers wanting to travel to Hawaii.”

Environmentally responsible hotels are known as “green hotels” because they use energy and other natural resources in environmentally responsible ways. Ecotourism was also internationally recognized when the United Nations celebrated the “International Year of Ecotourism” in 2002. Hawaii has been engaging in the practice of ecotourism for many years and Kauai vacation rentals evidence the success of this vibrant, important movement. Incredible, first-class accommodations are available all over the island, from a Poipu vacation home to Kauai hotels, that enable visitors to have a realistic Hawaiian experience without compromising the world around them.

In short, ecotourism is a vehicle to sustainable development that makes it possible to accept tourists without compromising the quality of the land and its precious resources. A Kauai vacation gives well-informed tourists an opportunity to see the benefits of ecotourism in action, especially since this is a long-standing concept in this area of Hawaii.

Environmentally-friendly Hawaiian vacations are easier and more affordable to plan than was ever thought possible with the growing online resources available to travelers today. Take advantage of this technology to plan the most unique, socially-conscious trip of a lifetime! After all, today’s vacation rental market is filled with incredible travel opportunities that make a tropical trip more accessible than it ever was before.

International Preschool & Kindergarten Offers Summer Camps with New “EduTour”

International Preschool & Kindergarten Offers Summer Camps with New “EduTour”

Shanghai, China (PRWEB) November 09, 2011

As China’s influence on the global stage grows, it is more important than ever that children are taught the Chinese language and culture.

A new program will help young children gain knowledge of, and appreciation for, the Chinese culture and language at their most critical stage in development – during their preschool and kindergarten years.

The Sino-European International Preschool & Kindergarten(“SEIPS”), located in Shanghai, is offering a unique summer camp experience that will do just that – expose children to Mandarin and the Chinese culture. It is one of the only educational tours available for preschool and kindergarten-aged children.

This is ideal for Chinese-American parents who wish for their children to know something of their heritage, as well as the parents of other American children who feel exposure to the Chinese culture and language is an important part of their child’s development. It has the added bonus of making for an unforgettable vacation the entire family – including the youngest members –will enjoy and remember.

The SEIPS camps are offered in three two-week sessions. Unlike most travel-based educational summer camps, which start at age six, these summer camps target younger children with sessions for two to three years old, three to four years old, four to five years old, and five to six years old. Programs for younger children are also available.

The 2012 Edutours, which are titled “Little Dragons,” will be held in Shanghai on the following dates:

         Session 1: Monday, June 25th – Friday, July 6th

         Session 2: Monday, July 9th – Friday, July 20th

         Session 3: Monday, July 23rd – Friday, August 3rd

Each week of the two-week sessions will have a different theme, including: At the Chinese wet market, My Chinese Family Tree, Animals of Bamboo Forest, My Global Community, Chinese Arts & Dance and Under the Pacific Ocean.

Employing the best of European and American teaching philosophies, children will be taught Chinese Mandarin through creative play and guided exploration in a range of subjects, including Chinese reading, math, science, 3D art, writing characters, geography, drama, biology, physical education and many other courses.

Cultural programs will include Tai Chi, traditional Chinese sword dance, Fan dance, dragon dance, Chinese calligraphy, Chinese painting, Chinese zodiac, and making lanterns.

A parent must accompany the child to Shanghai and stay for the duration of the camp. However, while children are interacting in a stimulating environment that encourages creativity and learning, parents will enjoy a variety of excursions and visits to some of Shanghai’s historic Chinese sites.

According to Nina Jares Cheung, SEIPS Education Director, the focus is giving younger children a foundation in Chinese culture and an appreciation of international learning.

“We want to set a new trend by introducing international travel, bilingual language instruction, and experiential learning to children aged two to six,” said Cheung.

The US Travel Association highlights the importance of international travel when it stated that its studies found, “A clear majority of students who traveled on an international exchange program felt they had become more trusting, open-minded, flexible, confident, and tolerant as a result of their travel experiences.”

“We believe that healthy foundations for cultural understanding and the learning of languages can be developed at those early ages,” said Cheung.

Each class benefits from a highly qualified team of teachers, directed by a full-time native-English teacher with a degree. This teacher is supported by a native Chinese teacher, ensuring a diverse, bilingual educational opportunity. A 5:1 ratio is maintained for all classes, guaranteeing students receive individualized attention.

Camp fees vary, depending on the length of the school day; half-day and full-day programs are available. The fees include classroom teaching, daytime meals for the students, and a series of local excursions for both children and parents. Trips outside of Shanghai can be organized upon request. Housing and airfare is separate. More information is available at http://www.seips-china.com, via email at info(at)seips-china(dot)com, or by calling (21)5045 8668.

About The Sino-European International Preschool & Kindergarten

Based in Shanghai, the school offers a variety of programs guided by qualified teachers with a low student to teacher ratio.
